YMCA Youth Outreach

YMCA Youth Outreach Programs

Recently we have done research and been proactively planning around the needs of newcomer youth who are at risk, experiencing chronic stress or isolation.

Our premise is that young people who are new to Canada face many challenges as they integrate into their new school and community.  Additional barriers that put them at risk need to be identified and addressed as soon as possible.

Early intervention and effective programming can minimize the effects of a difficult experience.  We work to address these issues on an on-going basis from school sites with the added component of outreach and community involvement.

Outreach Activities

  • Experiential education based  training modules
  • Volunteer experiences
  • Social adaptation activities
The purpose of YMCA Newcomer Services is to help immigrants to Canada settle into their new homes in the Halifax Regional Municipality, and to help the mainstream population understand the issues and barriers newcomers face while adjusting and adapting to their new language, culture, climate and community. With funding from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) our YMCA offers several programs
